Trump says he's pro-life; pro-lifers skeptical

“If I do run for president, I want you to know I’m pro-life,” he said. “I’m against gun control, and I will fight to end Obamacare and replace it with something that makes sense for people in business, something that will not bankrupt the country.” He says he will announce his decision about the presidential run by June. Trump, however, remains a proponent of gay “rights.”

Trump’s declaration that he is “pro-life” comes as a shock, given that he wrote in his 2000 book “The America We Deserve” that he supports “a woman’s right to choose,” but is “uncomfortable with the procedures.” In particular, he said he would support a ban on partial-birth abortion.

Given the mogul’s reputation for flouting sexual mores, his conversion to the pro-life cause has been met with skepticism from pro-life advocates, and has appeared to some as opportunistic given that pro-life candidates fared so well in the November elections. The inveterate playboy and Miss Universe owner, who has had five children with three wives, is unapologetic about his habit of pursuing younger women. In 2006, he said he would date his then-24-year-old daughter Ivanka if he weren’t her father.
