Abortion: Age-based discrimination

A student replied, “but we discriminate based on age all the time. For example, I can’t drink! So what’s the difference?”

The right to life is based on our existence and is conferred upon a human at fertilization (an age-based consideration). Other privileges (not rights) such as driving, drinking, or defending our country, are not comparable to the right to life because they are only based on what we can do (function) and not additionally on who we are (human). Abortion is simply depriving preborn babies of the right to exist based solely on their age.

Editor: I would have added, you can't drink or drive or defend your country if you're not alive. Life is the most basic, pre-eminent, right.
